Introduction
Quentry is a secure note-taking application designed to help you organize your ideas with complete privacy. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Quentry works entirely offline. Your notes stay on your device, are encrypted locally, and are never transmitted to external servers. Even voice dictation works 100% offline.
Encryption and Security
All your notes are protected by military-grade encryption:
- AES-256-CTR encryption for all stored notes
- HMAC-SHA256 for data authentication
- PBKDF2 with 310,000 iterations (OWASP 2023 recommendation)
- Encryption key automatically generated and stored in your device's secure Keychain/Keystore
Encryption is performed entirely on your device. Your notes are never stored in plain text and no keys are transmitted to external servers.
PIN Code Protection
The application is protected by a PIN code:
- PIN of 4 or more digits, set by you
- PIN hashed with SHA-256 + salt (never stored in plain text)
- Automatic lock when the application goes to background
- Decoy PIN mode: a secondary PIN that opens an empty space, for your protection in case of forced access
Your PIN code never leaves your device and is never stored in plain text.
100% Offline Voice Dictation
Quentry includes a fully local voice dictation feature:
- Vosk speech recognition engine (offline only)
- No audio data is sent over the Internet
- Voice processing performed entirely on your device
- Support for French and English
Your voice stays private. Unlike cloud solutions, Quentry's voice recognition never transmits your audio recordings to remote servers.
Locally Stored Data
The application only stores the following data on your device, in the application's encrypted local storage:

Backup and Export
Quentry allows you to backup and export your notes:
- Encrypted backup (.qb): proprietary format encrypted with AES-256 using a password of your choice
- Text export (.txt): export of an individual note or all notes
- All operations are triggered manually by you
- Generated files remain on your device
- No data is transmitted to external servers
Export and backup are voluntary actions. Generated files remain under your exclusive control.
Android Widget
Quentry offers a home screen widget:
- Display of a pinned note of your choice
- A security warning is displayed before pinning (the note will be visible without unlocking)
- The widget works entirely locally
- No data is transmitted to external services
What We Do Not Collect
- No personal information (name, email, phone)
- No location data
- No advertising identifiers
- No usage data transmitted to external servers
- No cookies or trackers
- No access to your notes content by our services
- No audio data from voice dictation
- No network connection required
Security Principles
Quentry follows these security principles:
- 100% local: no data leaves your device
- No cloud: no synchronization with remote servers
- No analytics: no tracking of your usage
- No network connection: the application works entirely offline
- Kerckhoffs's principle: security relies on the key, not on the secrecy of the algorithm
Important: Uninstalling the application permanently deletes all data, including your encrypted notes. Remember to export your notes before uninstalling.
Your Rights
Since no data is collected by our services, there is no personal data to view, modify or delete on our end. You have full control over locally stored data through the application settings or by uninstalling the app.
